A breakdown of things I can afford but am choosing not to because 2023 is the year of discipline.
Nevertheless, do make sure to mind yo business if you spot any of the items bellow on my timeline. This is the year of discipline, not the year of self-control. The latter has never been my thing anyways and yes, this is a Drake reference. If you got it, you’re invited to sit a the table with the rest of us cool people. If you didn’t, please make sure you educate yourself on decade-defining cultural references.
Amina Muaddi Henson Sandal
Do I need another pair of strappy sandals? SURE No. Would it make me happy? Yes. Love how minimal and versatile these are. A true staple that goes with every outfit I can think of. These days I’m more into buying solid pieces that can easily blend in with most of the things I own. I love a statement but hate how rarely I get to include it in my overall aesthetics. If you’re super bold with your style, then statement pieces are more than welcome. But if you’re more on the modest/minimal vibe like me, don’t get blinded by the bling because you’ll not make the most of it.
Snow Getaway in The Dolomites
I have been dreaming of a getaway to the Italian northern mountains for a while now. I love this type of landscape and the sense of isolation you get from being so far up and in the middle of nowhere. The nature is breathtaking and hotels are incredible, with a very interesting approach to design - one thing I always look forward to when picking a place to stay. I can’t ski nor snowboard, but I’d totally go with my man for some daily panoramic sex, good food and intense relaxation. The Forestis is a minimal dream of simplicity and responsible design. Love the vibe and concept.
Loewe Anagram Brown Set
Thank God it’s sold-out everywhere otherwise it’d be on my back at this very moment. To be quite honest, I’m on a waiting list for it, so chances are you’ll see me rocking this with some cute lil sneakers and an oversized shirt on top. As previously mentioned, make sure you don’t point it out when you see it - Pliz and tks.
Seydou Keita | Louis Vuitton Hard Cover Book
I love books of all sorts but hard cover photography books have a special place in my heart. Seydou Keita, one of my all time favorite photographers, was a Malian photographer specialized in portraits who photographed most of Bamako’s society between the 40’s and the 60’s, at his home studio. He is the father of African photography and a pioneer of his time. As an African woman, it is of utter importance and honor for me to be able to see my people shown under an empowering light at such particular time in history for most African nations.
Until the early 70’s, most countries, including Mali, were still under colonial control. Colonialism was violent in many ways, but one of the most aggressive forms of repression to me, was how the colonisers led a suppression of African-rooted culture, erasing our traditions in order to replace them by western ways of living. Plus, within the societal scheme, africans were mostly marginalised and kept away from important positions within their own communities. To see these people portrayed with such authenticity, dignity and respect is refreshing and makes me very proud.
Tiffany’s x Elsa Peretti Bone Cuff
I am not into jewellery at all. I don’t own any Cartier or the ultra-popular VCA Alhambra bracelets because I don’t like to wear accessories on a daily basis. But I do love a big statement piece to elevate a simple outfit into perfection and these Tiffany’s cuffs are IT! They’ve been living rent-free on my mind for a while and I will definitely get one (or two) soon.
Beyoncé Renaissance Tour Tickets
The beehive hates me for being vocal about Beyoncé’s questionable taste in fashion, but one thing is for sure: that woman is a force of talent and pure amazingness. Her presence on stage will hardly ever be replicated because she is a BEAST at dancing and sining. I’d love to witness that live at least once in my life.
Goyard Mini Saigon Bag
Aside from the Birkin that’s the only bag I REALLY want. I feel like bags are so average these days and haven’t felt excited for a new one in a while. I’ve been eyeing the Saigon since 2016 I believe, but never actually invested in it because I can’t decide which color. Love it so much!
A Nose Job
Please don’t tell me that I don’t need one. Nobody “needs” cosmetic surgery, but everyone can benefit from some lil enhancements here and there.
Derrick Boateng’s Art
By now you know that I love photography and investing in art is something I’ve been looking forward to for quite some time. If I was to get an original, it’d be Derrick’s incredible art prints - no doubt. I discovered his work three years ago on Instagram, and was shocked that he took all his incredible pictures with his iPhone. His photography is so powerful that the first time I laid my eyes on it, it instantly made me happy but also sort of melancholic. I felt a void inside of me, like a sentiment of longing, that made me miss home, my people, my childhood and everything about being born and raised in Africa. Derrick is incredibly talented, and just like Seydou, he shines a bright and amazing light on our people - a true breath of fresh air within the global media landscape/art scene which mostly portrays our continent through the lenses of violence, hunger and corruption. As an African woman I feel compelled to elevate local talent and to surround myself with the immense beauty of my continent and people.
Ginori 1735 Oriente Italiano Porcelain Collection
Because If everything goes as planned I will be marrying a Russian Oligarch in the next three years and I will obviously need the most refined and incredible tabletop porcelain to indulge in blinis and caviar deliciousness on a daily. No, but seriously, you guys know I’m a renowned hostess in my circle and love all things table settings + elegant dining. Ginori timeless and ultra luxurious porcelain is exactly what I need for the approaching next stage of my life, in which I intend to fully impersonate the Bree van de Kamp that is trapped inside of me.
